What is the difference between FDM and Resin (SLA) printing?

FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) uses a heated nozzle to extrude thermoplastic filaments layer by layer. It is best for structural prototypes and large functional parts.

Resin (SLA/DLP) uses a laser or light source to cure liquid photopolymer. It offers incredible precision and is ideal for jewelry, dental models, and highly detailed miniatures.

Which material should I choose: PLA, PETG, or ASA?

  • PLA: Ideal for visual prototypes. Easy to print, biodegradable, but low heat resistance and will deform above roughly 50°C.
  • PETG: The middle ground. Stronger than PLA, moisture resistant, and handles heat up to roughly 80°C. Great for functional clips and brackets.
  • ASA: Engineering grade. Excellent UV resistance and mechanical properties, making it suitable for outdoor automotive or industrial parts.
